- About:
Hull-born harpist Stephanie began learning the Clarsach at the age of eight with Rachel Jerome. Straight away she began competing in music festivals around the North-East and finding every possible opportunity to perform, which led to her being named the East Coast Musician of the Year. After moving onto the pedal harp, Stephanie was invited to play with the East Riding Youth Orchestra (ERYO) and within the first season performed a virtuosic cadenza from Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker. During her time with ERYO she played alongside three harpists from the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) in a performance of Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique which inspired her to successfully audition for the RNCM. Stephanie graduated from the RNCM with a BMus(Hons) in performance with the acclaimed Eira Lynn Jones. During her time at the college she performed regularly including solo recitals, chamber recitals with the Harlequin Duo and in a range of orchestras. Recently she has performed a cadenza with the Symphony Orchestra and also been conducted by Sir Mark Elder at the Bridgewater Hall. Stephanie was a solo accompanist in the RNCM Opera L’elisir d’amore and was personally asked to join the RNCM Big Band for their Northern Dance Orchestra concert. Stephanie plays regularly with local orchestras and opera companies such as the Piccadilly Symphony Orchestra and City of Manchester Opera. Also having just performed Mahler’s Adagietto with Nic Fallowfield at the Uppingham Orchestral Course, she has been invited back to perform Debussy’s Danse sacrée et danse profane. Stephanie also spends time working with children through outreach projects at the Bridgewater Hall and enjoys going into the Manchester Children’s Hospital to provide entertainment and respite for the families and children on the wards.

From the first time we spoke, she was extremely professional and helpful, offering song ideas and giving advice on timings. Although neither Mark nor myself had the chance to speak to Stephanie on the day, we were both so impressed with the beautiful music she played and received many a positive comment from our guests.
